What is the Cloud?

The cloud. You’ve definitely heard of it, but do you know how it works?

If you’re an Apple user, you’re probably familiar with iCloud and may use it to back-up data from your iPhone or computer. It’s possible you have used Google Drive or Photos recently, both of which utilize cloud storage and computing services.

When you store your data in the cloud, you’re simply storing your data on servers that are somewhere else — instead of on your personal computer at home. The applications that you use in the cloud use cloud computing. Cloud storage and cloud computing work together to give you the applications you use every day: email, social media, online banking, your favourite music streaming service.

ArtMoi is a software as a service, otherwise known as SaaS. The definition of a SaaS according to techterms.com is software that is deployed over the internet rather than installed on a computer. This benefits you as a user in a number of ways.

On top of our own security measures, ArtMoi also has the added benefit of our cloud provider’s security and compliance features. We’ll spare you the complicated techie details, but these programs follow strict global quality and security standards, including personal data protection. As always, it is important to remember to do your own security due diligence as well. Keeping your internet browser up to date and following password best practices are two easy ways you can help prevent any potential security breaches.

The chance of lost data is much, much lower with multiple layers of back-ups. With a spreadsheet program or other locally hosted documentation platform, you are the person solely responsible for backing up your data. As long as your cloud software provider is reliable and trustworthy, you will have a more robust infrastructure protecting your data.

The cloud also gives us the opportunity to seamlessly provide ArtMoi users with new features and updates more frequently and doesn’t require potentially expensive software upgrades. Additionally, ArtMoi doesn’t require a use of a specific type of device or operating system.

As long as you have an internet browser and connection, you can access ArtMoi at any time from any device, thanks to the cloud.
